How To: Crochet The Cluster Stitch – Easy Tutorial
The Cluster Stitch is one of the easiest stitches to learn, as the stitch basically just incorporates the Double Crochet technique, which means that cluster stitch only takes a tiny bit of practise to master!
Due to the fact that this is such a basic stitch you’d obviously assume it has a simple appearance/texture, which in a sense is true, but it’s far from plain and actually rather quite a pretty stitch, which makes it a great stitch to crochet blankets and scarves with!

How many chains are needed to begin a blanket with the cluster stitch?
Here is what I did that seemed to work. I am making a small baby blanket and will figure out the edging when I’m done. I chained 125. I am using a 4-ply baby yarn and a 5mm crochet hook (H). I wanted a firm foundation, so I single stitched in the second chain from the hook and then in each chain across. I then followed Heather’s instructions of chaining 2, turning and doing the cluster stitch in the same stitch. I then skipped one single stitch and did the cluster in the next stitch across to the last stitch. You could leave out the sc row and just cluster in every other chain on the foundation row. I think that would work.
