1920’s Pompom Cloche Hat Crochet Pattern

March 13, 2015

11

Now before you say anything, no I did not cut my long hair, but instead used a faux bob hair tutorial to create this vintage do!

I’ve always wanted to try some Gatsby inspired hairdos, but just didn’t have the time or patience. However, now I’m seriously considering chopping off my long hair, so I can channel my inner flapper, every day!

Have you ever tried any vintage hairstyles before?

What You’ll Need

6.00mm Crochet Hook
150g Bulky Yarn {12ply} –  I used Wendy Supreme Cotton Chunky
Pompom Maker
Tapestry Needle

Finished Size
Teen – Adult

Gauge

3 rows x 3 stitches in hdc = 1 inch

~ Note ~

{Chains at the start of a round don’t count as the first Half Double Crochet}

Round 1~ Taking your 6.00mm crochet hook and periwinkle bulky yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 2 Chains. Crochet 8 Half Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 8 stitches now.
Round 2~ Chain 1, then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into the same stitch. Crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into chain 1. You should have 16 stitches now.

then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from

Round 6~ Chain 1,
then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next 4 stitches.
Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the *
all around. Slip Stitch into chain 1. You should have 48 stitches now.
Round 7~ Chain 1,
then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next 5 stitches.
Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the *
all around. Slip Stitch into chain 1. You should have 56 stitches now.
Round 8 – 16~ Chain 1,
then crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into chain 1.

Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the *
all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 80 stitches now.
Round 21~ Chain 1, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the
same stitch. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2.
Round 22~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into chain 1. Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Now make 2 pompoms using your yarn {Note: Be sure to use both yarn colours when making each pompom, not just one}.
I used a clover pompom maker, but if you don’t have one you can
easily make one using THIS video tutorial. Each pompom measured 2.5 inches.

Taking your tapestry/wool needle, attach both pompoms to the side of your hat.

Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Hope you all enjoyed this pattern for a fashionable flapper hat!

If you did crochet this, please post a photo of your creation onto my Facebook Page.
I’d love to see it!
Have a lovely day crocheting,

I love this pattern ! In the first step ,what do you mean by " make two chains " ? I know what a chain is but I am not sure if you want me to make two different chains or how many chain stitches I am supposed to do ?
