As much as I adore over-sized scarves and their coziness, I also love the simplicity of a classic cowl.
However, it’s pretty obvious that there are already an abundant of basic cowl patterns out there. So in an effort to once again challenge myself, I decided to incorporate this beautiful cable stitch in my design to help give it a lovely chic flair!
What’s your favourite type of scarf/cowl?

What You’ll Need

8.00mm Crochet Hook
300g {210 yards} Bulky Yarn {12ply}
Scissors
Tapestry/Wool Needle
Finished Size
Fits 13 Years & Up
Length – 11″
Width – 28″

Gauge
2 rows x 2 stitches in front post double crochet = 1 inch

Taking your 8.00mm crochet hook and bulky yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 60 Chains. Slip Stitch into the first chain to create a circle.
Round 1~ Chain 1, crochet 1 Double Crochet in the same stitch. Crochet 1 Double Crochet in every stitch all around. Do not slip stitch into the first double crochet of this round. You should have 60 stitches now.
Round 2~  Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. *Crochet 1 Back Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Crochet 1 Cable Stitch into the next 6 stitches. {Note: I have an easy video tutorial on how to crochet the cable stitch below.} Crochet 1 Back Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Crochet 1 Front Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Repeat from the * all around. Do not slip stitch into the first back post double crochet of this round.

Round 3 – 4~ Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. *Crochet 1 Back Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Crochet 1 Front Post Double Crochet in the next 6 stitches. Crochet 1 Back Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Crochet 1 Front Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Repeat from the * all
around. Do not slip stitch into the first back post double crochet of
this round.
Round 5 – 22~ Repeat rows 2 – 4 six times. {Note: You can either add or take away a couple sets of rows 2 – 4 if you’d like a shorter or longer cowl.}
Round 23~ Repeat round 2.
Round 24~ Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. *Crochet 1 Back Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Crochet 1 Front Post Double Crochet in the next 6 stitches. Crochet
1 Back Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Crochet 1 Front Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Repeat from the * 4 times. Crochet 1 Back Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Crochet 1 Front Post Double Crochet in the next 6 stitches. Crochet 1 Back Post Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Crochet 1 Front Post Half Double Crochet in the next stitch. Crochet 1 Front Post Single Crochet in the next stitch. Slip Stitch into the first back post double crochet of this round.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Now you’re left with a long hollow tube/scarf. Roll half of the cowl inside the other half. Now the cable stitch will be showing on the inside AND outside of your cowl.

Hope you all enjoyed this winter-y pattern!

If you did crochet this, please post a photo of your creation onto my Facebook Page.
I’d love to see it!
Have a lovely day crocheting,
