Newborn Fairy Floss Pom Pom Hat Crochet Pattern

While crocheting with this yarn, I couldn't help but think of a childhood full of carnivals and cotton candy.
The thrill of the rides, the taste of sugary snacks, not to mention the difficult decision about which games to spend your hard earned tickets on, in hope of winning a fluffy animal of some sort.
I think there's something about a fair that brings out the inner child in us all!

What You'll Need
6.00mm Crochet Hook
100g Worsted "Thick-Thin" Yarn
Tapestry Needle
Pompom Maker

Finished Size
Newborn, 0 - 3 Months Old
{Head Circumference 13.5 inches, 34cm. Hat Height 5.5 inches, 14cm}

~ Note ~
{Chains at the start of a round count as the first Double Crochet of that round}

Round 1~ Taking your 6.00mm crochet hook and worsted yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 2 Chains. Crochet 9 Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 10 double crochets now.
Round 2~ Chain 2, then crochet a Double Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 2 Double Crochets into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 20 double crochets now.
Round 3~ Chain 2, then crochet a Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Double Crochet. Then crochet 2 Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 30 double crochets now.
Round 4 - 8~ Chain 2. Crochet 1 Double Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Now make 2 Pom Poms using your yarn. I used a Pompom Maker, but if you don't have one you can easily make one using THIS video tutorial.

Taking your tapestry/wool needle, attach 1 pom pom to each top corner of your hat, making sure to space them out evenly.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Hope you all enjoyed this cozy little pattern!
If you did crochet this, please post a photo of your creation onto my Facebook Page.
I'd love to see it!
Have a lovely day crocheting,

  3. In Round 1, you say to create 2 chains after the slip knot. Does that mean 2 chain stitches or 2 long chains of chain stitches? I'm getting tripped up on the 9 Double Crochets on the first chain. How does that work? What should it look like?

  4. Would you be able to add pictures of what this specific pattern should look like at each step?
