Newborn Teddy Bear Hat Crochet Pattern

Earlier today I had no clue what to write about in this blogpost until I read that perfect little quote. As stuffed with fluff as Winnie is, I have to admit he can be quite the philosopher!
Babies can’t help but fill our honey pots drop by drop with memories, silly smiles and lots of cuddly bear hugs.

 

What You’ll Need

10.00mm Crochet Hook
8.00mm Crochet Hook
65g Super Bulky Yarn {14ply} – I used Lincraft Luxe
10g Black Bulky Yarn
Tapestry/Wool Needle
Scissors
Finished Size
Newborn, 0 – 3 Months Old
{Head Circumference 13.5 inches, 34cm. Hat Height 5.5 inches, 14cm}
Colours
{This is the list of colours I used.}

55g – Chocolate Brown 

10g – Camel

 ~ Note ~

{Chains at the start of a round count as the first Half Double Crochet of that round}

~ Hat ~

Round 1~ Taking your 10.00mm crochet hook and chocolate brown super bulky yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 3 Chains. Crochet 7 Half Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 3. You should have 8 half double crochets now.
Round 2~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 16 half double crochets now. 
Round 3~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next 2 stitches. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch.  Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 22 half double crochets now. 
Round 4 – 8~ Chain 2. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2.
Round 9~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into chain 1. Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
~ Ears ~
Outer Ear
Round 1~ Taking your 10.00mm crochet hook and chocolate brown super bulky yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 3 Chains. Crochet 9 Half Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 3. You should have 10 half double crochets now.
Round 2~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next stitch. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch.  Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 15 half double crochets now.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Inner Ear
Round 1~ Taking your 10.00mm crochet hook and camel super bulky yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 3 Chains. Crochet 9 Half Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 3. You should have 10 half double crochets now.

Round 2~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the
same stitch. Crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into every stitch all
around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 20 half
double crochets now. 

Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
Repeat ear pattern once more to make a pair.

Taking your tapestry needle, sew both outer ears to the top of your hat, making sure they’re evenly spaced out. Then sew the inner ears inside of the outer ears.

~ Nose ~

Bottom Half
Taking your 10.00mm crochet hook and camel super bulky yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 5 Chains.
Row 1~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next 3 stitches. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the last stitch. You should have 7 half double crochets now.
Row 2~ Chain 2. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next 6 stitches.
Row 3~ Chain 2. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet Decrease. Then crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next 3 stitches. Then crochet 1 Half Double Crochet Decrease. You should have 5 half double crochets now.
Row 4~ Chain 2. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet Decrease. Then crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next stitch. Then crochet 1 Half Double Crochet Decrease. You should have 3 half double crochets now.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Top Half
Taking your 8.00mm crochet hook and black bulky yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 6 Chains.
Row 1~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the 3rd chain from your hook. Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the next 4 stitches. You should have 6 single crochets now.
Row 2~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the next 5 stitches.
Row 3~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet Decrease. Then crochet 1 Single Crochet into the next 2 stitches. Then crochet 1 Single Crochet Decrease. You should have 4 single crochets now.
Row 4~ Chain 1. Then crochet 2 Single Crochet Decreases. You should have 2 single crochets now.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

Taking your tapestry needle, sew the top half of the nose onto the bottom half. The sew the entire nose onto your hat, towards the bottom middle. Taking your black bulky yarn, stitch some detailing below the top half of the nose.

    This is too cute! All of your newborn hats are so adorable and I've wanted to make some, but I don't know how to convert sizes! That's been the only thing stopping me from making practically all of them lol. Do you have any tips for making these hats for a two year old?
