Chunky Slouchy Beanie Crochet Pattern

With winter fast approaching us here in Australia, I thought I’d get my hooks out and crochet myself some warm, and super chunky accessories in preparation for a cold and chilly season!
I haven’t made myself a hat in the longest time, but I’m so happy with how this slouchy beanie turned out! It’s exactly what I wanted.
What’s something you’ve created in the past to help keep yourself warm and toasty?

What You’ll Need

10.00mm Crochet Hook
200g Super Bulky Yarn {14ply}
2x Buttons {3cm x 3cm}
Scissors
Tapestry/Wool Needle
Finished Size
This beanie fits all sizes
{Easily adjustable, as explained in pattern}

~ Band ~

Taking your super bulky yarn and 10.00mm crochet hook, start of by making a Slip Knot, and then crocheting 7 Chains.
Row 1~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the third chain from your hook. Then crochet 1 Single Crochet into every chain across. You should have 8 single crochets now.
Row 2 – 43~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into every stitch all across, but only through the front loop. {Note: You can either add or take away a couple of extra rows depending on your head’s circumference.}
To create the band, make sure that the ends of the band overlap by 1 inch, before joining it together with your tapestry needle.
Now, taking your buttons, sew them onto your band where you just overlapped it, making sure to space them out evenly.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

~ Beanie’s Body ~

Round 1~ Taking your 10.00mm crochet hook and super bulky yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 3 Chains. Crochet 9 Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 3. You should have 10 double crochets now.
Round 2~ Chain 2, then crochet a Double Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 2 Double Crochets into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 20 double crochets now.
Round 3~ Chain 2, then crochet a Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Double Crochet. Then crochet 2 Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 30 double crochets now.
Round 4~ Chain 2, then crochet a Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Double Crochet into the next 2 stitches. Then crochet 2 Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 40 double crochets now.
Round 5~ Chain 2, then crochet a Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Double Crochet into the next 3 stitches. Then crochet 2 Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 50 double crochets now.

Round 6 – 9~ Chain 2. Crochet 1Double Crochets into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2.
Once
you’ve completed all the rounds, take your tapestry needle and join the beanie’s body to the band. {Note: The beanie’s body will be wider than the band, as the band needs to be a snug fit around your head. So be sure to slowly and evenly sew them together.}
Fasten off, and weave in ends.

I hope you all enjoyed this cute and chunky slouchy beanie pattern!

If you did crochet this, please post a photo of your creation onto my Facebook Page.
I’d love to see it!
Have a lovely day crocheting,

    I'm feeling really dumb! Can someone help me out with the first part of the band? No matter how I do it, I never end up with 8 sc. I'm not a beginner either, lol…I can't figure out what I'm missing!

      I am still a novice so when you say connect the band together with a tapestry needle, do you use the super bulky yarn to connect the band? Or do you use lighter thread or yarn? Thanks!

    You are supposed to start the second row of the band in the second chain from the hook, not the third.
