“Little Opa” Grandpa Cardigan Crochet Pattern

Gently peeking out from behind a grey cloud, the sun signals the end of another short, spring shower. As speckles of blossoms pop-up across the countryside in a fresh burst of color and life, slip your little one’s itty bitty toes into a pair of wellies, ready to embark on an outing.

Wrapping up has never been more adorable than with the snuggle-worthy “Little Opa” Grandpa Cardigan. We all love a bit of vintage charm, and this gorgeously textured layering piece has it in spades.

Offering a modern twist on the classic ‘grandpa’ style, the shawl collar and boxy silhouette of this cardigan creates a blissful blend of comfort and cosiness that is as ready for adventure as its young wearer! Tiny pockets make the ideal home for dimpled little hands and their recently discovered collection of outdoor treasures – whatever the weather.

Enhanced with a classic thermal stitch, “Little Opa” is destined to be a wear-it-all-the-time favorite, with its roomy body and fitted sleeves. Finished off with a distinctive ribbed collar to match the cuffs, this classic heritage piece comes in 3 different sizes, so every chatty little bub will be snuggled in it’s effortless warmth as they toddle about.

This little bubble of joy is my playful and cheeky nephew, who excitedly made his debut into the crochet world in the comfort and warmth of this cardi… Can we just take a moment to admire this natural model?!

Not only did the oversized silhouette of this classic piece allow for a lot of movement (as any mum knows all too well is a necessity when it comes to dressing a bub or toddler), but the lightweight cotton yarn also made for a very versatile layering piece – making for the ultimate amount of use before they outgrow it’s snuggles!

I have a question on the Opa sweater. I have no idea which is the right side. I did it in the sc because I couldn’t figure out the camel stitch. I just dont want to have to frog any of it. My question is do I need to turn inside out to stitch up the sleeve seams? And wouldn’t it be easier to add the white trim before I stitched the underarm seams? Sure wish I could have figured out that stitch because ai like the look.

Hi Olivia! I’m a crochet teacher and one of my students chose your pattern for her first grandbaby!
However we are having problems interpreting the instructions for the WST: we aren’t able to determine the “3rd loop of the sc as well.” Do I insert the hook under the top of the st (like a normal sc) and then in one of the legs of the sc from the front side aka the side facing away from me? Is there a video that you’ve got posted for the WST? The photographs on the pattern are difficult to understand. We love the sweater and want it to be made correctly. Thanks so much!
