With its subtle texture and chic details that compliment one another effortlessly, the Fallow Fawn Sweater is an understated classic and soon-to-be favorite in any transitional weather wardrobe.
Some of you may fondly remember the Winter Tempest Blanket I released a few months, mainly because of the beautiful colors used to work up the pattern. Once again, I decided to reach for the soft, squishiness of New Basic 175 Yarn when it came to selecting the perfect blend of durability and comfort for this design! I’d consider this an easy level crochet pattern, but an ambitious beginner may be able to tackle this one as I’ve also included a ton of how-to photos to help make the learning process all the more enjoyable. Ready to embark on this new crochet pattern? You can find the free pattern below, and as always you can discover the ad-free, printable PDF version here, or grab the yarn kit from Lion Brand here.

I have the pattern for this sweater but I cannot find Lion Brand New Basic yarn. Could I use Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice instead?
Connie says
I’d love to make this, but have a question. Would this pattern work using Heartland? Is aran the same weight? Thanks for responding.
Olivia Kent says
Hello Connie! Yes, you can definitely use Heartland instead (as they are both Aran/Medium weight yarn), however I would make sure to work up a gauge swatch and substitute a different hook size if necessary to achieve the right gauge. Hope this helps!
Sara says
This sweater would be beautiful out of Heartland. I do agree to always do a gauge swatch, it’s worth the time.
Robin says

Oh Olivia, this sweater is so perfect! I wonder how it would work up in Lion brand Wool Ease? I made a scarf out of it 15 years ago and it’s held up being a staple in my winter wardrobe every year. The color Heather has never gone out of style and it washes and dries well.
Liz says
What size sweater are you wearing? I would like to make this sweater tighter fitting. Thanks
Lucy says
I’m just starting this (bought the kit last year). I’m confused about gauge. Am i suppose to gauge with the patter (the griddle stitch) or just gauge with single crochet (that is what is says). Also, the legend has a FSC, but the pattern doe not tell you to use a FSC for the chains, am I supposed to?
Heather says
Hello – I’m new to your site – looking forward to making this sweater. Could you provide me with a tutorial that shows how to crochet seams together? Or if there are optional ways of seaming I’d love really appreciate seeing those tutorials as well.
Kind Regards and
Happy New Year from Calgary Alberta Canada

Question. Did ever think about using this same pattern in making a sweater dress?
