Star Stitch Infinity Scarf – Free Crochet Pattern
Years ago before I had ever even started blogging *gasp*, I crocheted a star stitch scarf and it quickly became one of my favourite projects! Unfortunately, I forgot to write down the pattern, and it wasn’t long before that pattern swiftly escaped from my mind, never to be recovered again.
I was recently reminded of this scarf, and decided to re-visit an old idea, which led to the creation of this lovely infinity scarf you see below!
I was recently reminded of this scarf, and decided to re-visit an old idea, which led to the creation of this lovely infinity scarf you see below!
However, if you’re not much of a scarf person, but still keen to learn the star stitch, why not crochet my Enchanted Forest Headband?
Taking your 5.00mm crochet hook and worsted yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 268 Chains. {Note: Add or take away sets of 2 foundation chains if you’d like to create a smaller or larger scarf.}
Row 1– {Note: This pattern features a Star Stitch which can be a bit complicated to understand. I have a video below that explains this stitch very well.}
Insert your crochet hook in the 2nd chain, and pick up a loop. Pick up 1 loop in each of the next 4 chain stitches (6 loops on your hook). Yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook. Chain 1 (this forms eye of star), *Pick up a loop in the eye of last star you created, pick up a loop through the back of last loop of previous star, then pick up a loop through same chain as the last loop of previous star. Pick up a loop in each of the next 2 chain stitches, (6 loops on your hook). Yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook. Chain 1. Repeat from the * all across. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet in the last chain of this row, (The same chain as the last loop of the last star of this row). Turn your work.
Row 2– Chain 1, Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the same stitch. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the “Eye” of the next star stitch. Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the “Eye” of each star, all the way across. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the top of the turning chain at the end of this row. Turn your work.
Row 3– Chain 2, pick up a loop in the front strand of 2nd chain from your crochet hook, then pick up another loop in the 2nd chain, but this time in the back strand of that chain. Pick up a loop in the first stitch of this row. Pick up a loop in each of the next 3 stitches (single crochets). Yarn over, and pull through all 6 loops on your hook. Chain 1, *Pick up a loop in the eye of last star you created, pick up a loop through the back of last loop of previous star, then pick up a loop through same stitch as the last loop of previous star. Pick up a loop in each of the next 2 stitches, (6 loops on your hook). Yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook. Chain 1. Repeat from the * all across. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet in the last stitch of this row, (The same stitch as the last loop of the last star of this row).
Row 4 – 24– Repeat rows 2 – 3. {Note: You can either add or take away a couple sets of rows 2 – 3, depending on how wide you’d like your scarf to be.}
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
When you’ve completed all the rows, sew the two ends of the scarf together to create a circle.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
Hope you all enjoyed this lovely textured pattern!
If you did crochet this, please post a photo of your creation onto my Facebook Page.
I’d love to see it!
Have a lovely day crocheting,

How do you make this an "infinity" scarf. There's no "joining" for the rows or rounds to close it up.

double the chains then fold it and sew

So happy your quiet voice and calming way of explanation for this pattern. Will be making a scarf soon. Made a baby blanket many years ago for a dear friend and have not been able to find my old pattern book…thank you so much.
