Pretty Pig Headband Crochet Pattern
One of my favourite movies as a toddler happened to be “Babe”, and every time I entered a Chinese restaurant I’d be greeted by the cliche “Chinese Zodiac Year” poster, which as you can guess by now, I was born in the year of the pig.
There’s also a series of books and a tv show about a pig called, wait for it… Olivia!
Materials
Yarn (DK) – King Cole Cottonsoft
Scissors
{Easily adjustable, as explained in pattern}
Headband:
Taking your 4.50mm crochet hook and DK pink yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 19 Chains. {Note: Add or take away sets of 2 foundation chains if you’d like to create a thinner or wider headband.}
Row 1~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the second chain from your hook. *
Skip 1 chain stitch. Crochet 2 Single Crochets into the next chain. Repeat from the * all across, making sure to crochet 1 Single Crochet into the last chain stitch.
Row 2 – 108~ Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the same stitch. *
Skip 1 stitch. Crochet 2 Single Crochets into the next stitch. Repeat from the * all across, making sure to crochet 1 Single Crochet into the last stitch. {Note: You can either add or take away a couple sets of rows, depending on your head’s circumference.}
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
Taking your tapestry needle, sew both ends of the headband together.
Snout:
Rnd 1– Taking your 3.50mm crochet hook and DK pink yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 2 Chains. Crochet 6 Single Crochets into the first chain you made. Do not slip stitch into the first single crochet of this round. You should have 6 stitches now.
Rnd 2– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the first stitch. Crochet 2 Single Crochets into every stitch all around. Do not slip stitch into the first single crochet of this round. You should have 12 stitches now.
Rnd 3– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round.
Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the first stitch. *Crochet 1 Single Crochets in the next stitch. Crochet 2 Single Crochets
into the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Do not slip stitch into the first single
crochet of this round. You should have 18 stitches now. {Note: If you’re crocheting this headband for a baby or toddler, skip crocheting Rnd 4 and Rnd 5.}
Rnd 4– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round.
Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the first stitch. *Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the next 2 stitches. Crochet 2 Single Crochets
into the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Do not slip stitch into the first single
crochet of this round. You should have 24 stitches now. {Note: If you’re crocheting this headband for a child or preteen, skip crocheting Rnd 5.}
Rnd 5– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round.
Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the first stitch. *Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the next 3 stitches. Crochet 2 Single Crochets
into the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Do not slip stitch into the first single
crochet of this round. You should have 30 stitches now.
Rnd 6– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in every stitch all around. {Note: Crochet every stitch in this round only in the back loop.} Do not slip stitch into the first single crochet of this round.
Rnd 7– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the first stitch of this round. Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
Taking your tapestry needle, sew the snout onto the top of the headband, towards the front. Add some detailing to the snout, using black yarn.
Ears
Rnd 1– Taking your 3.50mm crochet hook and DK pink yarn, start of by making a Magic Circle. Crochet 3 Single Crochets into the magic circle. Do not slip stitch into the first single crochet of this round. You should have 3 stitches now.
Rnd 2– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the first stitch. Crochet 2 Single Crochets into every stitch all around. Do not slip stitch into the first single crochet of this round. You should have 6 stitches now.
Rnd 3– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. *Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the first stitch. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Do not slip stitch into the first single crochet of this round. You should have 9 stitches now.
Rnd 4– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. *Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the first stitch. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the
next 2 stitches. Repeat from the * all around. Do not slip stitch into the
first single crochet of this round. You should have 12 stitches now.
Rnd 5– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. *Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the first stitch. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the
next 3 stitches. Repeat from the * all around. Do not slip stitch into the
first single crochet of this round. You should have 15 stitches now. {Note: If you’re crocheting this headband for a baby or toddler, skip crocheting Rnd 6 and Rnd 7.}
Rnd 6– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. *Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the first stitch. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the
next 4 stitches. Repeat from the * all around. Do not slip stitch into the
first single crochet of this round. You should have 18 stitches now. {Note: If you’re crocheting this headband for a child or preteen, skip crocheting Rnd 7.}
Rnd 7– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. *Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the first stitch. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the
next 5 stitches. Repeat from the * all around. Do not slip stitch into the
first single crochet of this round. You should have 21 stitches now.
Rnd 8 – 13– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in every stitch all around. Do not slip stitch into the first single crochet of this round. {Note: Only crochet Rnd 8 – 9 for baby/toddler size. Only crochet Rnd 8 – 12 for child/preteen size.}
Rnd 14– Start crocheting in the first stitch from the previous round. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the first stitch of this round.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
Create 2 ears.
Taking your tapestry needle, sew both ears onto the top of the headband,
towards the back.
