Newborn Minion Inspired Hat Crochet Pattern

I think it's beyond adorable when a newborn wears a little hat packed full of animated cuteness!
Last week I shared my pattern for an "Evil Minion Hat" and you all loved it, so I thought I'd continue the trend and create a normal minion hat as well!

 What You'll Need
7.00mm Crochet Hook
5.00mm Crochet Hook
55g Bulky Yarn {12ply}
10g DK Yarn {8ply}
Tapestry/Wool Needle
Scissors

Finished Size
Newborn, 0 - 3 Months Old
{Head Circumference 13.5 inches, 34cm. Hat Height 5.5 inches, 14cm}

Colours
{This is the list of colours I used.}
Ash Grey - 8ply
Banana Yellow - 12ply
Periwinkle Blue - 12ply
Jet Black - 12ply & 8ply
Snow White - 8ply


{Chains at the start of a round count as the first Half Double Crochet of that round}

~ Hat ~

Round 1~ Taking your 7.00mm crochet hook and banana yellow yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 3 Chains. Crochet 7 Half Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 3. You should have 8 half double crochets now.
Round 2~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 16 half double crochets now. 
Round 3Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next stitch. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch.  Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 24 half double crochets now.
Round 4~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next 2 stitches. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 32 half double crochets now.
Round 5~ Chain 2. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2.
Round 6 - 7~Change yarn colour to jet black. Chain 2. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2.
Round 8 - 10~ Change yarn colour to banana yellow. Chain 2. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2.
Round 11~ Change yarn colour to periwinkle blue. Chain 2. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.


~ Eye ~

Round 1~ Taking your 5.00mm crochet hook and jet black yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 2 Chains. Crochet 7 Half Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 8 half double crochets now.
Round 2~ Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 16 half double crochets now. 
Round 3~ Change yarn colour to snow white. Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 24 half double crochets now.
Round 4~ Change yarn colour to ash grey. Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next 2 stitches. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 32 half double crochets now.
When you've completed all the rounds, take your tapestry needle and sew your eye onto your hat, right in the middle of the black stripe on your hat.
Fasten off, and weave in ends.
