Can I make this small enough to fit a baby of an 18" doll?
Anonymous says
Oops! I meant to ask if the pattern could be customized to fit an American Girl doll, and if so, how? Thanks!
Olivia says
I'm not sure how to customise it, but you could try skipping rounds 5,6,9,12,14 that might work?
Wish I could help you more!
Bee Carroll says
You could also try using a smaller hook with a thinner yarn.. just a thought, but I'm sure it would work.. 🙂
Anonymous says
I would suggest using a hook about half the size to start with. After doing a few rows measure to doll and either go up or down or stay at that size hook. This is what I usually do.

I am totally stoked with this, especially since you did it in pink. I'm a cancer survivor, still waiting for my hair to get thick again. I have some pink yarn and can't wait to make this for myself. I didn't like the idea of a wig, which I suspect would be too hot. I've been making do with cotton hats, but am looking forward to this one. Should have it finished by weekend and will add a pic to your fb if I can. Just got new windows and am still exploring. Anyway, you'll hear from me.
Olivia says
Hi!
I'm sorry I haven't replied to your comment sooner, but I'm glad I've finally gotten round to doing it 🙂
You're an inspiration to us all, and I feel so incredibly honoured that you chose to crochet one of my patterns 🙂
Whenever I'm done crocheting a beanie or headband and putting it on my blog I almost always give it to the volunteers at my local childrens hospital so they can give them to the cancer patients.
I hope that today will be full of everything you love!

Hi Olivia!
I love this pattern but I have 2 questions. Do I turn at the beginning of each row? And should the total number of stitches for Round 3 be 24 or 36? I am a beginner at crochet so I need a little help. Thanks!
Olivia says
Hi!
At the beginning of each row you'll want to chain up and then continue in the same direction you were crocheting in.
Round 3 is 36 stitches.

Olivia says
It is in USA terms 🙂

Double Crochet Decrease? Is this the same as DC2together?
Chatty says
Double crochet decrease is dc2together, yes.
Neat turban, I'm going to have to give it a try. I've been looking for an easy turban pattern and this looks like it.

I am on a 20's/30's era kick lately (even bobbed my hair in anticipation of a knitted bathing suit I just finished), so this is next on my list. Thank you and I can't wait to share!

I see this is written for 13 and up, does this include most adults? I'm making a special one for my mom.

I love the Turban and would really like to make it for two of my granddaughters but I am stuck right from the start. You indicated that this follows USA stitches but what about the Hook? Here in the USA a size 6 hook is a steel hook usually used for lace or table covers and such. Are you using a 6.00 mm hook which we call a "J" hook here?
I appreciate any and all help!!
Olivia says
Yes, it's a 6.00mm hook 🙂

My grand daughter found a picture of a "mermaid hat" on Pinterest and insisted I make it for her. It looks exactly like this hat except it's done in two colors and you add a little crocheted starfish applique on the side. Made it for her, sent it to Florida and my youngest great grand daughter threw a fit because she wanted it. Ended up making two more so she could have one and her older sister got one too. Super easy pattern. Thanks so much!

What is 8 ply yarn. I do NOT think we have that in Alabama/ USA.
Thank you!
Abbie
Olivia Kent says
Another name for 8ply yarn is DK (Double Knitting) yarn 🙂

olivia, iam new to your site, but love your designs. I like that you reply to questions. I've had bad experience with one designer from etsy….when I ran into problem with her pattern she never reply anymore. I even bought her pattern
malloreekarmine says
Just wanted to say thank you for posting this pattern. I've made two for my friend going through chemo and they are her favorite to wear 🙂

I want to make the crochet chemo turban but am having problems opening the pattern. Thank you for providing such good ideas.

Thank you for posting this pattern! As a newbie, I did have issues with the pattern. I used the J hook and it was too big. I ended up using an H hook. I did not find a gauge guide in the pattern. Maybe it was the yarn I used? Caron Simply Soft, I thought was a DK weight. Thanks again! I plan to make more!
Brynn says
Made this cap as a chemo cap. Turned out beautiful. I did mine with a 5.5 mm hook and red heart super saver. The body of the cap in black and the tie in burgundy.
Kathy Maves says
I use a bowl the same size of the hat to test it as I go along. If the hat fits snuggly over the bowl, I know it will fit!
I have measurements from my entire family.
Alida says
Beautiful. I will be making this for myself.

I am making some chemo caps for our local cancer center. This pattern is VERY easy and I’m having a great time making these. They crochet up very fast. Thanks for sharing this pattern. I will be using this quite a bit!

I have a question on round 6. It says to crochet 1 dbl crochet in each stitch and we should have 65 total. If row 5 has 60 stitches, how do we get 65 unless we increase somewhere. Just a little confusing to me.
Thank you
Ruth says
I would like to make this pattern. Is size 6 crochet hook the same as a 3.5 mm hook? What would be the gauge to do a test for size?
June says
You say use 8 ply yarn, but it looks like a light yarn was used. Is reular orlon sayell ok to use?
helen says
I am battling stage 2 invasive ducts carcinoma breast cancer. I made the turban and my man loved I gave it to him because it is too big for my head. I am using a smaller hook to crochet it. Thank you and have a blessed day.
